The cutter is able to read the barcode printed below the job. The barcode format has to be formatted using the PostNet format . Only when working with this kind of workflow the barcode functionality needs to be activated. When the function is not used than there is no need to activate the barcode functionality. In that case make sure your alignment mode is not set on BARCODE (set OPOS alignment mode).

On new cutters the barcode functionality has to be activated. Activation is done by entering a code at the front panel. The activation code can be obtained by filling in a form on the website of Summa (https://www.summa.com/en/support/product-registration/). After filling in the form, the activation code is displayed, as well as an email is sent.

This procedure describes how to activate the barcode functionality using the control panel on the cutter.

Procedure

Determine the serial number of the cutter

1. Power on the cutter (media not needed).

2. Press MENU .
‘KNIFE PRESSURE’ will appear on the LCD.

3. Press UP-ARROW .
‘SYSTEM SETUP’ will appear on the LCD.

4. Press ENTER .
‘ACTIONS’ will appear on the LCD.

5. Use UP-ARROW or DOWN-ARROW to scroll through the menu until ‘CONFIGURATION’ is reached.

6. Press ENTER.
‘IP CONFIG’ or ‘LANGUAGE’ will appear on the LCD.

7. Use UP-ARROW or DOWN-ARROW to scroll through the menu until ‘FW VERSION’ is reached.

8. Press ENTER to confirm.
‘MD-9985 rev.xx’ will appear on the LCD to show the firmware version residing in the main board.

9. Press ENTER again.
‘DD-MM-YYYY’ will appear on the LCD, indicating the release date of the firmware.

10. Press ENTER once again to display the serial number of the machine.
‘xxxxxx-xxxxx’ will appear on the LCD, showing the serial number of the machine.
This number will depend on the machine type and when the machine was built. The number should match with the serial number found on the identification label at the rear of the machine.

Registration

1. Use your internet browser and navigate to https://www.summa.eu/barcode.

2. Fill in the form.

3. Click the “Send” button.

4. An activation code will be displayed. Note this code. You will also receive an email with the activation code:

1.  Power on the cutter (no media needed).

2. Press MENU .

3. Press UP-ARROW .
SYSTEM SETUP will appear on the LCD.

4. Press ENTER .
ACTIONS will appear on the LCD.

5. Press ENTER .
CONFIDENCE TEST will appear on the LCD.

6. Use UP-ARROW or DOWN-ARROW to scroll through the menu until UNLOCK BARCODE is reached.

7. Press ENTER.
VISIT www.summa.eu/barcode PRESS ANY KEY TO CONTINUE will appear on the LCD.

8. Press ENTER .
0000000 will appear on the LCD.

9. Use UP-ARROW or DOWN-ARROW to change the value for the selected digit.
Use LEFT-ARROW or RIGHT-ARROW to select another digit.

10. Press ENTER when the activation code has been entered.
OPOS BARCODE IS UNLOCKED. PRESS ANY KEY TO CONTINUE will appear on the LCD.

11. Press EXIT to return to the start screen.
