F Series - Setting Down Position

Modified on Mon, 30 Sep at 4:52 PM

The down position is a parameter specific to each tool or module, determining how far down it will go while cutting. It's crucial to verify this parameter during machine setup to ensure the correct tool depth for the application.

The operator is always responsible for this parameter!

Automatic Depth Control - ADC

The ADC is a feature that scans the installed tool and sets the down position automatically. This accelerates the initial set up of the down position significantly.

However, this is only a reference position and does not guarantee the material will be properly cut!

There are several factors that influence the down position:

  • Material hardness: Harder to penetrate materials are pressed down more
  • Tool type: Tools with a larger surface area exert more downward pressure on the material
  • Tool wear: Blunt tools exert more downward pressure on the material
  • Vacuum usage: Proper use of the vacuum areas generate a lot of downforce, compressing the conveyor/routing mat and lowering the material

Manual Adjustments

To compensate for these factors, the down position can be manually adjusted.

Refer to section 2.5 Tool/knife calibration without ADC of the F-Series Reference Guide for instructions.

Once manually adjusted, the down position settings are saved.

If the ADC scans the same tool in the same slot again, it will automatically apply the last manual adjustment!
